Forkas Find of the Day: How to Choose a Realtor

Today we are going to discuss a few different types of realtors and how to select the right one for your needs.

I often get questions of “Hey, what’s the best way to find a realtor?” Truthfully, there are many answers to a seemingly simple question. Let’s explore a few.

I can pretty much guarantee you that you have an Aunt Alice who’s been selling real estate since 1975. She knows everybody in town and she’s the best in the business, but she isn’t actively working anymore. She considers real estate a parttime venture and she doesn’t like to work on Sundays, because that’s when gathers with her friends to play bridge.

Also, you more than likely have a very good friend and her daughter Tina is selling now real estate. She’s only been in the business for a couple of months and although she doesn’t have a lot of experience, she’s eager to learn.

You may feel obligated to hire one of these agents, but remember that when you sell your home or buy a home, it is likely the largest financial transaction of your life, so you want to make the right decision the first time.

Another scenario, and you’ve been the ads, is to hire the ‘big-time’ realtor out there. They promote their business as the best in the industry, number one in transactions, number two in listings, etc. What these agents often don’t tell you is that after your initial listing appointment, that may be the last time you interact with them personally. Many of these mega-agents spend tens of thousands of dollars marketing to secure listings and to keep a steady flow of transactions in their funnels. Listing management is often turned over to other team members to allow the big-time realtor to continue to procure more listings. This option may or may not appeal to you.

The third option is, “Hey! I’m right here. Hire me!”

When you hire Forkas Home Team you get Brook and Michael. We have over twenty years of experience. Brook comes from a construction background. Her father is an architect and a custom builder. She has wood in her veins! My twenty years of real estate experience includes buying, selling and working with investors. I do fix and flips and fix and holds. I know how to read a blueprint. I know how to get dirty when the need arises. I’m not afraid to roll up my sleeves and check out the foundation myself to help you better under the inspection reports.
