2. Fabulous Firsts at Pittsburg California Theatre (Pittsburg)
What: The Contra Costa Chamber Orchestra, Geoffrey Gallegos, Music Director and Conductor, presents an afternoon delight of Fabulous Firsts!
The concert opens with Gioacchino Rossini’s sparkling and energetic overture to his most famous, popular, and first opera of significant importance, and arguably the greatest masterwork of the Italian opera buffa (comic opera) genre, Il barbiere di Siviglia (The Barber of Seville.) The First Cello Concerto of Camille Saint-Saëns, featuring Federico Strand Ramirez, follows in all its virtuosic, dramatic, and lyrically elegant rhetoric. This is Mr. Strand Ramirez’s first appearance as soloist with the CCCO. Following intermission, the concert concludes with the Symphony No. 1 by Ludwig van Beethoven, the great titan’s first of nine masterworks in this genre that profoundly influenced all symphonic music that came after.

3.Walnut Festival Crab and Tri-Tip Feed (Concord)
What: For the past 86 years, the non-profit Walnut Festival Association has attracted the most dedicated volunteers, from all walks of life, who join together to serve Contra Costa County by raising funds through community events. The money raised from these annual family entertainment events is donated back into the community to support recreational, charitable, and educational programs and facilities. The Walnut Festival Association events also provide a means for service and charitable groups to raise money to support their specific organizations.

This show takes place at an undiscovered gem of a new comedy club with murals, comfy couches, a lush upstairs lounge and THE place to see SF’s rising comics on an intimate stage right before they become famous.

6.City of Trees Parade & Mardi Gras Festival (Sacramento)
What: Join in on the all-afternoon festival beginning at 3pm, right on Capitol Mall. Kids enter free with RSVP! There will be live performances, interactive exhibits, food trucks, local vendors, and a beverage garden to wet your whistle and help us raise funds for this non-profit event. Bring your lawn chair or blanket and you’ll be able to watch our fantastic parade as it rolls past the festival toward tower bridge, culminating in Sacramento’s only evening-time parade, featuring light-up art cars from Burning Man! From 7 to 9 PM you’ll be able to see all of these light up art cars in all their glory, parked right inside the festival grounds.
